SLC Punk! sequel in the works

So for those of you, who haven’t seen the film, here’s a trailer for SLC Punk!:

and here’s the poster: 70835

The movie stars Matthew Lillard, Michael Goorjian, and Annabeth Gish.

Casting Couch (a section of FilmSchoolRejects.com) states that Chris McDonald and Til Schweiger are still in talks, but that once that is figured out, production should start. And as soon as August, with an estimated 2014 release.

On May 8th, 2013, director James Merendino said he’d be making Punk’s Dead (a sequel to SLC Punk!) to explore what happens when the rebellious get older. “I made SLC Punk when I was a kid, and accordingly, the story is naive, and, as just a coming of age story, not finished,” Merendino said. “The characters are facing  big questions, 18 years later, as outsiders, Punk rockers… What relevance do  they have in a world where all statements have already been made?”

Witt that announcement, came the vague addition that “most of the original cast” would return. and someone close to production has confirmed Lillard will be return. Contract deals are not finalized, but Matthew Lillard, Annabeth GishDevon Sawa and Michael A. Goorjian are all preparing to return for the project.

This sounds like it could be hilarious.

If you have seen the film, you’d find this Easter Egg pretty funny: In Matthew Lillard’s directorial debut, in a movie called “Fat Kid Rules The World”, he plays an unnamed character, just listed as “Psychologist”, but it seems like like he plays Stevo (from SLC Punk!) as an adult, because he repeats a line from SLC Punk!. The line he repeats is something his dad says in SLC Punk!: “Son, I didn’t sellout, I bought in.”

Check out the clip at the bottom of this link:

Pretty clever. Do you think Lillard repeated that line as a hint he was interested in a follow-up to SLC Punk? Or was it a hint that a sequel was in the works? What do you think?

  1. Matthew did that cameo as a grownup version of Stevo. Look at the nameplate. He did it as a shoutout to SLC Punk because kids always came up to him to say how they loved the movie and Fat Kid is about a kid finding himself within punk rock music.

That’s the DVD cover, not the poster of SLC Punk.

  2. In the clip, you can see his nameplate actually reads “Steve O. Going”
