Blue Mountain State: The Rise Of Thadland is finally out & has everything you could want from a college football movie – sex, drugs, booze, sloots, more drugs and very little football. The movie played perfectly off the established characters, themes & storylines of Blue Mountain State (the Spike T.V. show that was cancelled after just three seasons). Since it’s cancellation in 2011, the show found a new home on Netflix & gained a larger following, leading to the traction that made this Kickstarter film come to fruition. Even if it’s only on digital download, the film did not disappoint.

When the Goat House (essentially a football frat house) is put up for auction by the new Dean, Captain Alex Moran (Darin Brooks) is forced to ask previous Captain & now NFL player Thad Castle (Alan Ritchson) to buy it & save the B.M.S. Goats’ party mansion. Naturally, Thad will only pay if they throw the biggest party anyone’s ever been to – an all out Thad-themed amusement park/party called Thadland.
Give me a hell, give me a yeah! HELL YEAH! Sit back & enjoy as the classic B.M.S. shenanigans unfold.
Blue Mountain State: The Rise Of Thadland REVIEW
Blue Mountain State: The Rise Of Thadland tied up loose ends, brought back familiar faces & even managed to top every party they ever threw at the Goat House all in one glorious night. But of course after Thad has experienced Thadland, he never wants to leave and the party to end! The film perfectly captured the spirit of what made the show great & comfortably presented back in the most NSFW way it could. Things only get more true to B.M.S. roots when the party runs out of drugs, and Sammy Cacciatore (Chris Romano) convinces Harmon (James Cade) to give everyone his mystery drug that he’s been making in the basement, just so Thad will remember Sammy’s name. Meant to serve as follow-up & a finale the Blue Mountain State series, The Rise Of Thadland felt exactly like a long episode of the show. With classic antics, ridiculous plot points, and (as stated earlier) very little football, the movie serves fans exactly what they waited for.
This is a BMS fan-funded movie made just for BMS fans.
With non-stop shenanigans from the B.M.S. players and Sammy, the movie perfectly closes the story & gives fans closure. The film, much like the show, focused on Alex Moran’s difficult friendship with Thad Castle and relationship with Mary Jo (Frankie Shaw), while other characters came & went. Although some respectful appearances from B.M.S. alumni like Coach Marty Daniels (Ed Marino), Larry Summers (Omari Newton), Donnie Schrab (Rob Ramsay), Radon Randell (Page Kennedy) and the long-awaited return of Craig Shilo (Sam Jones III), who in real life fell into legal trouble, leaving the show just after one season. Most notably missing from the film though were Debra (Denise Richards), Coach Jon Jon Hendrix (Kwasi Songui), and the two cheerleaders Kate (Meghan Heffern) and Kara (Leah Renee).
Blue Mountain State: The Rise Of Thadland gives the fans a proper finale to the Blue Mountain State story that began the day Alex Moran, Sammy Cacciatore & Craig Shilo joined the BMS Goats. That was also the day they raced Thad down the football field with Oreos in a place Oreos just shouldn’t go… The show ended after three seasons, and in its finale held a football game in a corn field. The BMS story started & ended with ridiculousness, so it’s only fitting that the follow-up movie did the same.
