Filming has officially started on Terminator: Genesis in New Orleans and Arnold Schwarzenegger is back as the Terminator!

We have the latest details on plot rumours, casting, and news of a new trilogy starting with Genesis.

But if not, here we go:

The reboot of the Terminator franchise is (most likely) going to take place in three different timelines.

The first of which will be revisiting the original 1984 story, where The Terminator searches for Sarah Connor and kills all of them until he finds the correct one, and we will see actors today playing characters that existed back then. I wonder who will play Bill Paxton’s part?

Its rumoured that the second timeline will be in 2017, right after the Terminator war occurs, and the third timeline will be in the far future 2027-2029 (around there). There aren’t any plot confirmations as of yet, all that’s been said is that it has the feel of Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Now, I heard a rumour (almost a year ago) that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be playing a bad Terminator (a different version than Arnold’s) that is one of the updated versions after Arnold’s T-800/T-850. And is sent back to when Sarah Connor is a child, and he hunts down herself and her parents in the 1940’s-50’s, and the local sheriff that helps save them is played by (now aged) Arnold Schwarzenegger. While saving the Connor family, and several others, he also saves the Dyson family.

Since Miles Dyson is just a child, he sees Arnold as a hero, and when he’s older, he starts developing SkyNet, and when he thinks of who should represent the humanoid version of the Terminator’s, he thinks of that local sheriff that saved his life when he was a child. But, not knowing that the man who tried to kill the Connor’s was a Terminator, he designs the Terminator’s because of a fear, caused by Terminators. Ironic. But really interesting!

And what a way to reboot the franchise than the go even further back and see things like Sarah Connor young, and her trying to survive, and you have to ask, what does that mean for the other movies? If the intent is to get rid of Sarah Connor as a child, then when the T-800 comes to kill John Connor (her son) as a child, he won’t exist to lead the resistance against the machines…

BUT, that’s just one plot rumour I’ve heard. It may not even play out that way. But seeing as Emilia Clarke has been cast as Sarah Connor, we might be seeing her before the events of The Terminator (1984).

 

Terminator: Genesis will be the first of a standalone trilogy for this series.

There have been some other interesting casting choices including J.K. Simmons playing an alcoholic detective that’s attempting to figure out what’s on with Sarah Connor and why she’s being attacked for three decades.
