Producer Jerry Bruckheimer (above, middle), gave the latest update on four of his most popular franchises including Beverly Hills Cop, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Bad Boys, & National Treasure.

He talked to a variety of different websites and interviewers about the different franchises and where they’re all headed, and how come some of them have been stalled and so forth. But JoBlo.com had the latest on what Bruckheimer had to say about Beverly Hills Cop 4 & Pirates Of The Caribbean 5.
He first said that Beverly Hills Cop 4 has new life after the failed pilot got screen tested at Paramount and ignited interest in a fourth instalment. The pilot had Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, and Brandon T. Jackson as Foley’s son who was to follow in his father’s footsteps as a mischievous, witty, but brilliant detective that’s working in Beverly Hills. The pilot was meant to be a passing of the torch to Jackson who was meant to take over the series, starting with the TV show. But, it never got picked up. The thing is, the pilot tested well with the studio, and now, a fourth Beverly Hills Cop is on its way. There’s no word on plot or casting yet, but Eddie Murphy is definitely returning to reprise his iconic 80’s role. But, there’s no word on whether the fourth BHC will replace the pilot episode or completely ignore it – meaning there’s no word on whether or not Brandon T Jackson is joining.

The only thing that’s been said about the upcoming sequel is that Jerry Bruckheimer is pushing for it to happen, and soon. He said that he hopes to be filming by late summer or early fall. He also said that the movie will be split between Detroit and Beverly Hills:
“We’re going to take Eddie [Murphy] back to Detroit. He’s going to be in Beverly Hills … so we’re going to have some fun with him.” (Source JoBlo.com)
Last month, it was almost certain that Pirates Of The Caribbean‘s last ship had sailed (when Disney’s Bob Iger hadn’t given Pirates 5 the green-light), but Jerry Bruckheimer seems to want to continue the franchise saying he hopes to “get that going” (Source JoBlo.com) but when asked whether or not the franchise will helm a 6th instalment, Bruckheimer said “We make ’em one at a time” (Source JoBlo). Johnny Depp has stated that he wants to return to the land (and seas) of Pirates, but his schedule is jam-packed so he might not find the time for a while. Currently, the 5th instalment sits in pre-production but has a summer 2016 release date slated out. Who knows if that will even happen. At one point, there was a rumour that Johnny Depp wanted Pirates Of The Caribbean to go to 8 or even 9 movies, and that he would produce them so they would happen, but I’m guessing someone talked him out of that, because that was last summer and there hasn’t been much word on it since.
There have been rumours that Pirates 5 will be titled Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and that Geoffrey Rush’s character (Barbosa) will play a serious role where he either is a ghost or is haunted by one and Jack Sparrow needs to save him, but it looks like Penelope Cruz, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley will most likely not return.
From what Jerry Bruckheimer was saying, it sounds like the studio wants Keith Richards to return to play Jack Sparrow’s dad, but that may or may not happen.
The next franchise Bruckheimer talked about was Bad Boys. He said that a script is being written for the third instalment, but whenever Will Smith is ready to do it, Sony isn’t. And whenever Sony is ready, Will Smith is busy:
“It’s so funny because we’ll get Sony real excited to make the movie, and then Will [Smith] is off doing two movies. And then, Will will come back and be real excited about it, and Sony will say, ‘Well, maybe it’s not the time for this.’ And then, Ride Along came out and was a big hit, and now they’re all excited to make the movie, but Will is off doing something else. It’s just trying to get everybody together to make it. But, we’re working on the script. We have a lot of faith and hope that we’ll do it.” (Source Collider.com)
Apparently, David Guggenheim (Safe House, Stolen) is writing the script for Bad Boys 3, but it sounds like it’ll be a while before it happens.
The surprising thing is that National Treasure 3 hasn’t happened yet, seeing as the first two did so well at the box office. Apparently, the third National Treasure was supposed to start filming after Justin Bartha was done filming on The Hangover Part II in 2010, but then scheduling with Nicolas Cage interrupted it, and I’m guessing they started re-writing the script because Jerry Bruckheimer then said that they have the first act done, but they’re working on connecting it to the second and third:
“Those are the hardest movies to make because they’re all based on clues. It’s so difficult to work them out. But, we got a first act in [on Friday], and Jon [Turteltaub] was very excited about it and I’m very excited about it. Hopefully, the first act will lead into the second act and the third act, and we’ll get this thing going.”
What do you guys think? Should these series get sequels? Which are you excited (and not excited) for?
