Back in November, we reported that The Purge was getting a sequel, and that it would be out as soon as June 2014. We also (based on a theory from ScreenRant.com), stated that the sequel could be called The Zone and that the plot could follow the Sandin family (from the first Purge movie) perhaps surviving in a “safe-zone”, free from the Purge or trying to survive while stuck in a Zone where the Purge is contained, Gladiator-style.

But none of that seems to be true.

According to ShockTillYouDrop.com, the sequel will be called The Purge: Anarchy. Filming has almost finished, and a minute and a half trailer is due soon.

Original writer-director James DeMonaco is back and Frank Grillo is starring alongside Michael K. Williams, Zach Gilford, Carmen Ejogo and Kiele Sanchez.

Actor Zach Gilford spilled the beans about the plot saying, “With the sequel, I thought they had a really great way to do a sequel because the first one took place in an upscale suburb with what happens to a family there when their security system doesn’t work. With this one, there’s none of the same characters, but it’s the same day of the year and it takes place in the city where there are no security systems and it’s just like a war zone where people are just trying to survive. So I thought it was pretty interesting to take that concept and to look at it from a different angle.”

The Purge: Anarchy is set to hit theatres June 20th, 2014.
