I just read an article from GeekTyrant’s Joey Paur about G.I. Joe 3, and how he went to a Q&A with director Jon Chu after the release of “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and someone asked the question “is Duke really dead?”
The director responded by saying in the G.I. Joe universe you never know if someone is “really” dead. When talking to MTV, Jon Chu said something similar to what he told the crowd at the Q&A (according to GeekTyrant’s Joey Paur):
“You never know, Storm Shadow died in the first one and came back in the second one, and then other characters have died and never come back. The G.I. Joe world, the best thing about it is you never know who’s coming back and who’s not.”
So what could be interpreted from that is that Duke could be coming back, but that’s really up to Channing Tatum… A lot of fans would argue that G.I. Joe isn’t really G.I. Joe without Duke, but Tatum doesn’t seem interested in doing another Joe sequel, seeing as he pretty much requested that he get killed off early on, in G.I. Joe: Retaliation…
So far, Jon Chu has signed on to direct and Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis have signed on to star in the upcoming sequel.
What do you guys think? Could Duke return? What would you think of the series if he didn’t?
