The sequel to the comic-based hit “Red” came out today (7/19/2013), and I was not disappointed. The movie follows the fan’s favourite couple Frank (Bruce Willis) and Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker) trying to adjust to retired, married life. And while Frank is trying very hard to keep her safe, Sarah is more then excited about the dangerous and adventurous life Frank Moses provides when he is pushed into a corner. All while, a hit is put on Frank and Marvin (John Malkovich) because someone has framed them for something they didn’t do 30 years ago…
The jokes just don’t stop with perfect comedic timing from both Mary-Louise Parker and John Malkovich who are like child-&-cool-older-brother. Parker’s character is intrigued by the excitement, but can’t handle most of it (at one point, almost shoots Malkovich by accident), but Malkovich keeps helping her out, even when Bruce Willis just wants her to be safe.
I would rate this movie 7/10.
IMDB.com has it at a 7.2 right now.
At some points, the plot might have seemed unclear, jambled or even a little improvised, but in the end, whoever appeared to be a bad guy, died, so it seemed resolved. Except for Bryan Hung Lee, he some how joined the good-guys’ team, and gave up trying to kill Frank Moses (Willis).
I think that this series could continue, the group has great on screen chemistry, so to be honest, most people will watch Red 2, and enjoy it because it’s more character/joke driven then plot. But I am 100% cool with that. Bruce Willis needs some more laid back half comedy half action roles, seeing as the Die Hard franchise is going to die soon… (Die Hard 6 will be the final film in the franchise, according to Willis).
I really enjoyed this movie, and (even though Hollywood doesn’t need anymore sequels), this is one group of characters I just can’t see myself getting bored with. Perfect character chemistry between Willis, Malkovich and Parker.
If you want to see a movie where there’s action and laughs, do yourself a favour, and see Red 2. It’s worth it.
So… what did you guys think of the movie? What did you think of the first one? Would you want to see a third?
