Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed on to produce and star in his first zombie flick – and it’s called “Maggie”. The film’s script has been bought, then sold, back and forth for a couple of years now (to be more specific), Timur Bekmambetov (director of “Wanted”), purchased the script 2 years (and 4 months) ago, but since then sold it. Currently, it appears that Arnold Schwarzenegger has gotten attached to the project.
The original script itself is probably the reason it is in such high demand, because it’s a different take on the average zombie flick; the premise is: A high school girl has been contaminated with the zombie virus. However, in this treatment of the zombie dilemma, the change takes months to complete.
The movie originally cast Chloë Moretz (Kick-Ass) as the lead, but she had to eventually leave the project because of scheduling reasons. So now, the premise revolves around a father “on a journey to help his daughter come to terms with her infection as she slowly becomes a zombie.” – movieweb.com (full article here)
I’m guessing that Arnold will play the (newly scripted) lead (the father), and that another actress will play the daughter. Seeing as Moretz is no longer attached to “Maggie”, the script might have some pretty serious re-writes, including changing the perspective of the story (like noted earlier) to the father dealing with his daughter’s suffering, instead of the daughter’s perspective.
Personally, I find that to be a shame, I’m interested to learn what the (zombie-infected) daughter is thinking while she’s going through this unspeakable trauma… What she thinks right before she “turns”.
Henry Hobson is directing from a screenplay by John Scott 3, which landed on The Black List in 2011. Arnold Schwarzenegger will produce alongside Pierre-Ange Le Pogam, Matthew Baer, Trevor Kaufman, Colin Bates and Joseph Tufaro. Production is scheduled to begin this fall. – movieweb.com
So those of you who wanted to see Arnold Schwarzenegger fight zombies, might want to sit this one out… The story, from what we know so far, seems to come off as a pretty emotional piece, not a lot of action.
BUT, if you want to see Arnie kick *ss in everything he’s doing in the next 5 years, here’s his movie line up!
- Escape Plan (directed by Mikael Hafstrom, co-starring Sylvester Stallone)
- Sabotage (directed by David Ayer)
- The Expendables 3
- Terminator 5 (co-starring Dwayne Johnson)
- The Legend of Conan
- The Unknown Soldier (from the directors of Act of Valor)
- Captive (directed by Nicolai Fuglsig)
- Triplets (aka the Twins sequel)
What do you think about Arnold’s first zombie-flick? Also, how do you think audiences will react to the unconventional storyline? What about Chloe Moretz dropping out, who do you think will replace her as the daughter?
