Before I start, don’t get me wrong, Dwayne Johnson is one of my favourite guys to see in action movies, but the way it looks, we’re going to be seeing him a lot more. Not only does The Rock have 5 movies coming out this year alone, he has dozens on the way, and he has some that he isn’t even attached to yet, but really wants to be in (see bottom of article) Star Wars…

The Rock is one of those actors that actually managed to break the barrier from wrestling to acting and kept going up. The way I see it, he’s basically the Arnold Schwarzenegger of our generation; starting from just looking bad-ass for show, to being bad-ass in movie roles, with minimal actual acting, but great scenes that show off his potential. The thing that Dwayne did right is diversify. Arnold mainly had two acting roles: serious bad-ass or comically funny foreigner… You either see him in Terminator or Predator type roles or in roles like Twins or Junior… and that’s about it. There’s no serious roles. Recently, Dwayne was in “Snitch” where he played a father who helps reduce his son’s sentence by helping the government make a couple drug arrests. The movie was action-packed with awesome scenes like Dwayne driving an eighteen-wheeler while shooting at bad guys with a shotgun, just watch it, it’s worth it. But one of the best things about the movie is that there were emotional scenes where we saw that the Rock can actually act. He’s not just a big-muscle head, he can actually say his lines.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has 5 movies coming out this year: Snitch, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Empire State (no trailer or poster yet), Pain & Gain, and Fast & Furious 6.

Action-packed non-stop all the way through, a good boost for Dwayne, after the unfortunate “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” in 2012…
Best things about “Snitch”:
The Rock was unnecessarily jacked to play the part, that’s great.

Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) had a part in it, it’s nice to see him in something besides Walking Dead.

I’ll review G.I. Joe: Retaliation once it comes out, and I’ll post it then.

Pain & Gain looks like it will deliver with The Rock and Mark Wahlberg playing bodybuilders that pull off a heist… sounds like it won’t be good until you realize it’s made by Michael Bay. That guy can make any stupid sounding plot interesting: two African-American narcotics cops solve the murder of one of their friends, giant shape changing space robots fight each other on Earth with the help of a wimpy teenager… Bad Boys and Transformers were both more than decent movies, and their sequels were ok too. I have no doubt Pain & Gain will be more than decent, and I’m hoping it turns out to be pretty good.

The Rock and Marky Mark got absolutely ripped for this movie, so I’m definitely seeing it… partly because I want to see if Dwyane gets roid-rage…

Ok, that’s enough pictures of how huge The Rock is… That’s the last one I swear.
Onto the next movie: Fast & Furious 6
(Source HighOposter.com)
This is one of those franchise’s that died for a while, but was brought back (with Fast Five) and Dwayne Johnson was part of the reason that the series came back to life, about 3 years ago, I remember reading an article, I think on Moviepilot.com, they said that Vin Diesel is planning on making Fast and Furious 6 be part 1 of 2 and maybe the finale for the series… Not sure about that since this would technically be their comeback, and “you never walk away from the table when you’re on a heater” (Jeffrey Tambor in the Hangover)… My guess is we’ll be seeing Fast & Furious movies until Dwayne Johnson is too jacked to move any of his ligaments…
As far as IMDB has listed, Dwayne Johnson has a couple more movies coming post 2013… Starting with “Hercules: The Thracian Wars”, “Lore”, “Ciudad”, “Journey to the Center of the Earth 3” and “Sinbad”. He is set to star as Hercules and Sinbad in the upcoming reboots, reprise his role as Uncle Hank in Journey 3 (for short), and it is unclear what characters he will play in “Lore” and “Ciudad”.
BUT the out-of-the-ordinary thing is that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is more interested in jumping into two other already popular franchises, the first is probably pretty obvious, but the second… not so much: The Expendables 3 and Star Wars Episode 7. Yup, that’s right The Rock wants to use the force, and fight with lightsabers in the upcoming sequel to the insanely popular Star Wars franchise.
When Collider asked Dwayne Johnson if we wanted to be in The Expendables 3 he responded with:
“It all depends. Yeah, sure. I like Sly. He’s been a buddy for some time. That continues to grow, too and I’m excited about that and I know a lot of guys are. I love the first one and I’m excited about the second one. Sure, if he needs somebody to hunt somebody down, he knows where I’m at.”
But news.com.au talked with Dwayne at the Sydney, Australia release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, where he said that playing a leader of the “Joes” in Retaliation had fulfilled one of his two childhood dreams, the other being having a part in Star Wars.
“I played with two lines of action figures when I was a kid: G.I. Joe and Star Wars. By the way, because we didn’t have a lot of money, I used to steal them. I’d just rip open the packages and shove ’em in my pockets… like a lot of kids. I got caught a couple times, got my ass kicked by my parents. So when I got the call saying, ‘How do you feel about becoming the leader of the G.I. Joes?’, it was like if I got a call from George Lucas saying, ‘I want you to be in Star Wars’.
Now let me explain why it might be a good idea:
1) The Rock is fit enough to be a definite bad guy or really good guy, whatever they chose.
2) He could easily fit into the background as a suped-up Jedi or the next Sith lord…
3) Recently, The Rock has been thrown into a couple of different series in an attempt to save the franchise, and with Fast & Furious, it worked. After the Star Wars prequels, maybe Star Wars needs some help.
AND why having The Rock in Star Wars is a terrible idea:
1) He isn’t in the same acting class as Ewan McGregor, Harrison Ford, and Liam Neeson. He wouldn’t be able to rely on shooting the bad guys with big guns when his fists fail… I couldn’t imagine anyone taking The Rock holding a lightsaber seriously…
(Source – original photo from ScreenCrush.com, I photoshopped on the cape, and the two lightsabers…)
2) The Rock has been thrown into a sequel to try and save the franchise before and it hasn’t worked 100% of the time. Plus, who says the franchise needs saving? JJ Abrams directing means that the project will go smoothly.
Journey to the Center of the Earth was a decent movie. Completely warped from the original story, but it was decent. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was also a decent movie, but again, they warped the original story but somehow it didn’t really matter. The weird thing is that Dwayne was thrown into the Mummy sequel: The Mummy Returns, to play a character called Scorpion King, which got him his own movie about that character. But Dwayne didn’t replace Fraser in the lead of The Mummy series, but maybe he should have… naw, Fraser rocked the Mummy.
–> Now in both of these movies (Journey & G.I. Joe), Brendan Fraser’s character got (kind-of/sort-of) recast to Dwayne in the sequel. In Journey 1, Fraser plays the dad, and Dwayne comes in the sequel to play the uncle, Fraser not in sight. In G.I. Joe, Fraser played Sgt. Stone for a mere couple seconds, almost as if he was there to have a bigger part in the next movie, but nope, instead we get The Rock as RoadBlock. Basically, what I’m saying is that The Rock might get pulled in to be cast over some one who was lame originally. LUCKILY, Brendan Fraser was never in Star Wars, and Star Wars doesn’t need to be saved (meaning there’s probably no reason to throw in Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson).
3) He doesn’t fit. Not only would he be the biggest character (besides Jabba the Hutt)… but most of the characters that made Star Wars so amazing back then were “underdogs”. They were small, sort of weak characters with a lot of potential to grow, The Rock can’t grow much more than he already has…

My personal opinion:
The Rock doesn’t really belong in the Star Wars universe… Sorry. He would basically steal the spotlight from the real hero of the movie…
What do you think: Should The Rock even be considered for Star Wars Episode 7? What are your thoughts on Pain & Gain? Did The Rock go too far for the part?
