How I Met Your Mother is getting a spinoff – How I Met Your Dad, and it just cast it’s leading role to Greta Gerwig.

From EntertainmentWeekly:

She’ll play Sally, who gradually reveals how she met her partner in flashback. She’s described as “a female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she’s going in life. She has just figured out that she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year. A break-up is inevitable, but Sally will find a solid circle of support in her friends and family, who are often too willing to give ‘good’ advice that can backfire badly. Meanwhile, Sally must filter out the input and decide what’s best for her.”

Gerwig will be playing the Ted Mosby equivalent who will tell her children of how she met their dad through a series of flashbacks, but this time, the show will start midst their divorce after a one year marriage.

The pilot is set to film in Los Angeles, but the show, and the rest of the episodes will take place in New York.

There will probably be a new “gang” and they probably won’t be hanging out at MacLaren’s, they’ll get their own, new pub.

Gerwig is also set to produce and perhaps even script a couple episodes, alongside creators of the first show Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. HIMYM regular Pam Fryman will direct.

What do you think of a spinoff lead by a girl? What about the name – How I Met Your Dad instead of Father? What about Gerwig as the lead since she’s mostly done indie projects until now?
