flash title

With DC’s small screen success (Arrow, Smallville), it’s looking to expand. According to ScreenRant.com, a Flash tv show in the works and they’ve started casting. The tv show will be a spinoff of DC’s (current most popular show) Arrow.

If anyone isn’t caught up on Arrow… an episode came out just over a month ago (Dec. 4, 2013) that featured and introduced Barry Allen, a.k.a. The Flash into the DC world of television, that will lead into a Flash TV show set to come out in the next year.

Grant Gustin (above on the right) has been slated to star in the spinoff series.

Although The Flash never costumed up in “Arrow”, he will in The Flash pilot. And although it just has a pilot order, it’s already got four main cast members.

First off is the most obvious: Grant Gustin as The Flash.

Jesse L. Martin (Law & Order) has been cast as (according to ScreebRant.com) “Detective West, who acted as a surrogate father to Barry Allen ever since his mother’s murder and his father’s imprisonment. imprisonment. West believes Barry’s account of the night of the murder and supports Barry in his mission to find his mother true killer, so it’s possible that West helped to cover for Barry during his sojourn to Starling City. He’s described as an “honest, blue-collar cop” who is also a “soulful, funny and caring” father to Iris West, who in The Flash will be a grad school psychology student and Barry’s best friend since childhood.Giving Barry close ties to the Central City Police Department (where he also works as a forensic scientist) provides a convenient way for him to obtain details local crime activity and fight against it as The Flash, and the fact that his surrogate father and mentor is a cop reinforces his motivation to clean up the streets of Central City. The search for his mother’s killer also provides a strong backbone for a series story arc, so all in all there’s plenty for the showrunners to work with.”

According to Deadline.com, Rick Cosnett (The Vampire Diaries) and Danielle Panabaker (Shark) have joined on as Reverse-Flash and Killer Frost.

Rick Cosnett will play Detective Eddie Thawne, described (by ScreenRant.com) as “a recent transfer to the Central City Police Department, whose past is a mystery and who harbours a dark secret.” On the other hand, Panabaker’s character will be Caitlin Snow, “a highly intelligent bioengineering expert who lost her fiancé during an explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs” (Source ScreenRant.com). According to DarkHorizons.com: In the comics, he replicates the accident that gave Barry Allen his powers and in the process becomes Professor Zoom (aka. ‘Reverse-Flash’).

From ScreenRant.com:

“Eddie Thawne is almost certainly a variation on Eobard Thawne, who in the comics goes by the codenames Professor Zoom and Reverse-Flash. The Reverse-Flash is arguably’ The Flash’s greatest enemy, a man from the future with all the powers of The Flash and similar fashion sense (he wears the same costume, albeit primarily yellow with hints of red; hence, “Reverse”-Flash) who is determined to ruin Barry Allen’s life. He’s also responsible for murdering Allen’s mother via time travel, which will likely be a large part of the plot of the new series… Caitlin Snow was a scientist whose body was accidentally fused with ice, which transformed her into Killer Frost. She’s basically a “heat vampire” who can, for some reason, turn heat into cold. Her entire body is covered in ice and she can also create deadly ice projectiles and instantly freeze anyone she comes into contact with.”

What do you think of this casting news? What do you think of the idea of The Flash coming back to tv? What about Grant Gustin as The Flash?
